DOE's RICHARDSON TOURS BROOKHAVEN JOB SITE

BOISE, Idaho – U.S. Secretary of Energy Bill Richardson on Friday toured the site of a successful federal nuclear research reactor decommissioning project at Brookhaven National Laboratory. US Ecology, Inc., a subsidiary of Boise-based American Ecology Corporation (NASDAQ: ECOL) is performing the technically demanding waste removal operations recently inspected by Secretary Richardson.

"We are proud to serve the Department of Energy on this important federal clean-up effort," said Jack Lemley, chairman, president and CEO of American Ecology. "Secretary Richardson's decision to visit the Brookhaven project site is a testament to the safety, quality and cost-efficiency US Ecology brings to clean-up efforts of this nature", Lemley added.

US Ecology is completing removal of a 1.25 million pound concrete duct structure at the Brookhaven Graphite Research Reactor (BGRR) under contract to URS Corporation. The URS - US Ecology team was chosen by DOE based on US Ecology's earlier, exemplary performance on a sludge tank remediation at the laboratory, located on New York State's Long Island.

"American Ecology looks forward to expanding its federal services presence in the months and years to come", Lemley concluded.
